"Meeting the Sexual and Reproductive Health Needs of People Living With HIV," Guttmacher Institute: The policy brief examines how people living with HIV have specific sexual and reproductive health needs -- such as services focused on their increased vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections or services aimed at preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission. It also examines the factors that can restrict HIV-positive people's access to some health services, including unstable health care systems, where workers might not have received HIV and reproductive health training and where supplies are unavailable; similar programs that separately focus on HIV services and on sexual reproductive health services; sexual taboos, which hinder the creation of policies and programs addressing sexual health needs, particularly among youth; gender inequalities, which might undermine women's control over their sexual lives; and HIV-related stigma among health care providers and other groups (Guttmacher Institute release, 11/14).
