Report Examines Funding for Efforts to Implement Routine HIV Testing
June 28, 2007 "Report on Findings From an Assessment of Health Department Efforts To Implement HIV Screening in Health Care Settings," National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors: The report found that funding is the primary barrier encountered by most health departments in their attempts to implement routine HIV testing in health care settings to comply with revised CDC recommendations on HIV testing. "Public health departments cannot sustain routine HIV testing or other HIV prevention programs if they don't have resources," NASTAD Executive Director Julie Scofield said. She added that the organization is calling on the Senate to allocate adequate funding for testing efforts to "ensure resources are available to support and expand the very critical work of ensuring everyone living with HIV knows his or her status" (NASTAD release, 6/26).
