The Vietnam Women's Union and the United Nations Vietnam Country Team last week launched an initiative to promote increased involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS in programs designed to combat the disease, the Thai News Service reports. The initiative aims to help HIV-positive people take part in HIV-prevention activities and share their perspectives and concerns. The $667,000 project's five primary components are: training and support for HIV-positive people and those affected by HIV; helping HIV-positive people to access treatment and services; providing opportunities for HIV-positive people to become involved in HIV-related activities; reducing stigma and discrimination; and promoting understanding and support of the initiative. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Special Voluntary Fund of the U.N. Volunteers Program, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and Australian government aid program AusAID (Thai News Service, 2/23).
