Swaziland Opens Health Center for AIDS

April 29, 2008

Swaziland, which has one of the highest HIV rates in sub-Saharan Africa, has opened an AIDS treatment center that will provide free services to medical workers who contract HIV as a result of occupational exposure, according to the Swaziland Nurses Association. The Wellness Center "provides a holistic complement of services for all health workers and their immediate families," said Thabsile Dlamini, chief of the SNA. In addition to post-exposure prophylaxis, the facility offers voluntary counseling and testing, a resource center, antiretroviral therapy, and TB treatment.
