The US Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected, without comment, an attorney's request for immediate access to the medical files of a Guantanamo prisoner who says he has AIDS. H. Candace Gorman said she is waging a legal fight to ensure her client, Abdul Hamid Abdul Salam Al-Ghizzawi of Libya, is receiving adequate treatment in the US military prison in Cuba, and she needs access to his medical records. She said the prisoner, who has been held without charges since June 2002, appeared ill when she visited him in December and told her in a letter that a doctor there had diagnosed him with AIDS. Gorman said the detainee had previously confirmed he had tuberculosis and hepatitis B. Military officials said all detainees at the prison have access to complete medical treatment; however, citing privacy concerns, they declined to say whether any detainees have AIDS.
