Dr. Robert L. Brandt Jr., founder of Miami Valley Physicians for AIDS Care and an honorary board trustee of the AIDS Resource Center Ohio, entered a consent agreement with the Ohio State Medical Board to suspend his license while he undergoes drug and alcohol rehabilitation. The board issued the agreement on Dec. 6. Brandt this month sent a letter to his 800 patients apologizing "for my longer than anticipated personal leave time." Brandt, who described his drug use as "incidental," said on Thursday his return to practice is up to the state medical board. "I have a diagnosis of alcoholism," he said. "Part of all this is burn-out. It's the stress of being in solo practice. It's the stress of working with the [HIV/AIDS] disease."
