Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project (CHAMP) is a non-profit national initiative building a powerful community-based movement bridging HIV/AIDS, human rights, and struggles for social and economic justice. As HIV rates rise and prevention efforts are under concerted attack, CHAMP mobilizes people living with HIV, community activists, researchers, academics and policy advocates in our country, and links them with allies around the world. CHAMP arms a new generation of leaders with tools and resources to challenge and change HIV/AIDS prevention policies; to attack the root causes of the epidemic such as poverty, homophobia and racism; and to sustain and expand our movements for justice. We unite across communities facing high rates of HIV through community organizing, strategy development, media efforts, and training in popular education, history, critical thinking, and data analysis.
Solidarity ProjectCHAMP is committed to a solidarity approach in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Our publication Solidarity Project provides information on key HIV/AIDS issues that affect people in the United States and around the world. We also provide conversation starters and training exercises in the back of each issue to help spur discussion of hard topics on these issues in our own communities. Solidarity Project (Proyecto Solidaridad) is also available in Spanish.
HHSWatchHHSWatch is CHAMP's watchdog publication that monitors and reports on activities related to HIV prevention at Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies, including CDC, NIH, HRSA and SAMHSA. It is a resource for community members, policy advocates, researchers and anyone interested in more fully understanding and tracking the committees, panels and administrators whose recommendations and decisions affect our work. HHSWatch is committed to providing an outlet for those concerned about infringements upon science-based HIV prevention and treatment and will respect your wishes for confidentiality. If you are interested in contributing information or suggesting a story, please contact us at champ@champnetwork.org.
Community Forum ReportsThe Politics of HIV Prevention: CHAMP NY organizes a series of forums about HIV prevention policy and activism in collaboration with the LGBT Community Center. These forums provide important discussions aimed to bridge HIV prevention issues with LGBT rights, reproductive rights, and other social justice issues. Reports of the forums and related presentation slides are available to the public.
Reports, Alerts and Position PapersCHAMP supports policies that will ensure comprehensive and effective HIV prevention research and programs. We are building a vibrant and solid activist infrastructure. As an intergenerational, cross-community alliance, CHAMP is setting the stage for new victories in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We bring together an animated and insightful group of thinkers and troublemakers to craft strategic pathways linking HIV research, policies and programs to movements for social change. We are dedicated to articulating realistic plans for action.
