My partner found out that he was hiv positive with a mouth swab test. We had unprotected sex the night before the next day he took me to get a mouthswab test i came out negative. Is there a chance tha hiv can pass anyone up even though we had unprotected sex a couple of times before the last.
Pleas help im scared
Response from Dr. Horwath
Getting tested the day after having unprotected sex does not give you conclusive information about your HIV status because your bodies response to infection can take from 2 - 12 weeks to develop. The test measures antibodies to HIV; this is part of your immune system's response to exposure to the virus. A good plan would be to go back for a test again 3 months after your unprotected sex; the result you get after 3 months will be 99% certain.
Of course, the most important thing you need to do is avoid having unprotected sex. You cannot change what happened in the past, but you can still control whether you expose yourself in the future. Always use condoms during sex.
