Response to "son with new HIV diagnosis

I just lost my 30 year old daughter to HIV related illnesses in February. She too never wanted to deal with her illness and thought they would be able to save her no matter what happened. She also wanted to live life her way and be in control. That cost her, her life. Now her young daughter and family are left behind to miss her and wish we could see or talk to her again. Just a suggestion, but I would invite him over and let him know that you know he is afraid and maybe in denial about what can happen, but he needs to learn as much as he can so he may feel more comfortable doing what he needs to do to live. Try to help him understand you all will be there no matter what but that you can't and won't help him ignore it. Tell him you love him and want him to be with you for a long time. He may not appear to listen but at some point when he is ready for real help he will come to you and ask for it.
