Aug 17, 2008

about 5 years ago I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinomas on my left middle finger and my right index finger. The dr. told me he did not know for sure but thought it was most likely from H.P.V. About six months ago I started feeling some chafing on my backside. It got progressively worse. My H.I.V. Dr. thought it might be a fungal inf..gave me some nystatan powder. That did nothing to help.At this point it started to get very uncomfortable to wipe my behind. I went back to my dermatologist oncologist, and got another biopsy done on that area. Before I go on just to let you know a quick hist. I am 51 yrs.young,My viral load is undetectable.my t'cells are around 230.I am heterosexual and contracted my H.I.V. from I.V. drug use ('ve been clean for eight years.I was first tested pos. in 1985 w/no risky behavior from before 1983. The biopsy report reads as follows Diagnosis-Perenial-Bowenoid-Papulosis,extending to the lateral margin. Clinical Imp. Condyloma Bowens then it states the epidermis is papillated,w/ crowding of keratinocytes and increasd milotic figures. Some of the keratinocyte nucliei are atypacal Please what does this biopsy report mean in my languagr. PLEASE ANSWER.I am a bit worried

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I am not a dermatologist, but Bowen's disease is usually thought of as a type of squamous cell carcinoma, and that is usually localized to the area. Whether this was related to your previous bought with this is unclear. Treatment would usually be wide excision of the area. Your dermatologist would be the best to inform you of the options.
