Ask the Experts about Understanding Your Labs
kaletra & kivexa
Aug 10, 2008
Hello,
I'm a 40yrs male & have been told I've been poz for 4-5 years.
My third lab result showed cd4 260 16%
& vl @ 25,000 my first test showed cd4 320 & vl 52,000. My cd4's are dropping & vl. My doc. said I should start meds. I said yes & he gave me kaletra & kivexa. A test showed I cannot take Sustiva.
It's been 1 week now & I have not started to take the pills. I'm not sure if this is the right first-line treatment for me.
Fear ? reading too much on the net about other meds... I just don't know.
Any comments would sure help.
thanks !

I assume when you mean that a test showed you can't take sustiva that meant the virus you have is resistant to that medication and therefore won't work. Therefore the regimen your doctor prescribed is a perfectly acceptable regimen to start with.
