Aug 10, 2008
I was tested hiv + 02/08; not on meds yet. labs 3/08: 31%, 384, vl 4350(done @ 11am). labs 6/08; 34%,451, vl 3766(done @ 3pm). Why is my CD4 %ge normal and abs CD4 low;does that mean my ABS CD4 is gen. low? Im Asian; does it have something to do with it?

Response from Dr. Holodniy
The absolute number is related to the total white blood cell count and total lymphocyte count which could be somewhat low, and thus with a relatively normal CD4 percent be reflected in a somewhat low CD4 count. The absolute count will be somewhat lower in the morning and higher in the afternoon, which is the normal variation we see in people.
