My Father has been diagnosed with PML since 3-8-99. He has no known immuno-deficiencies. No cancer, no HIV, no anything. Every doctor we see says the same thing, "No known cure". We haven't tried any treatments and the MRI's have shown no progression of the Disease. What is a SAFE possible treatment that we can try? Could alpha/interferon assist his own immune system to fight off the virus? Also, is there a Doctor that we can see that knows anything about PML?

PML would be unusual in a patient with a normal immune system. Has your father seen an Infectious Disease specialist, particularly one experienced in treating patients with PML (these are usually HIV/AIDS doctors)? There are no established treatments for PML, but if he has had a stable course for almost a year he is either very lucky or it is the wrong diagnosis. Intravenous cidofovir is an experimental drug for PML-- but if he's doing well he might not want to risk taking it, as it can be a fairly toxic drug.
